Overview

The organization is building a mobile banking and point-of-sale (POS) platform focused on extending credit in emerging markets. This role sits at the core of how lending decisions are made—who to lend to, how much to lend, at what price, and why.

This is a senior, high-ownership position responsible for owning, improving, and operationalizing existing NPV and unit economics frameworks so they become a core decision-making system rather than standalone analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Own, audit, and improve NPV & unit economics models across lending products, ensuring consistent assumptions and decision-ready outputs for pricing, credit cut-offs, and capital allocation.
  • Measure expected vs. actual performance by building frameworks to track performance across products, cohorts, credit policies, pricing strategies, and experiments; identify key drivers of variance and feed insights back into risk and pricing decisions.
  • Drive experimentation and value attribution by partnering with Risk, Data Science, Product, and Growth to define NPV hypotheses, measure incremental economic value, and determine which initiatives to scale, improve, or stop.
  • Influence business decisions by translating complex economic analysis into clear trade-offs and providing credible insights to senior leadership, challenging models, policies, and decisions when economics do not support them.
  • Embed NPV into decision-making by integrating NPV thinking into credit policy reviews, risk governance, pricing and limit discussions, and planning cycles, while setting standards for transparency, documentation, and assumption discipline.
  • Raise the analytical bar through ownership and integrity—challenging analytical and execution standards and adapting under pressure.

Requirements (Must-Haves)

  • Strong experience in unit economics, NPV, LTV, or portfolio profitability (lending, fintech, banking, or adjacent sectors).
  • Deep understanding of credit economics and how risk, pricing, tenure, and behavior interact.
  • Proven track record of measuring expected vs. actual outcomes.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders using data and logic.
  • High-ownership mindset with a bias toward action.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-To-Have)

  • Experience in high-growth fintech or scale-up environments.
  • Exposure to experimentation frameworks (A/B testing, policy tests, pricing tests).
  • Strong capability with SQL / Python / analytics tooling.
  • Experience working closely with Risk, Data Science, and Growth teams.

What Success Looks Like

  • By Month 3

    • Existing NPV models are audited, rationalised, and standardised.
    • A portfolio-level NPV view exists across all major products.
    • Leadership has clear visibility into where value is created or destroyed.
    • Experiments are routinely evaluated on NPV uplift versus control.
  • By Month 6

    • NPV actively drives decisions on credit cut-offs, pricing bands, and growth investment trade-offs.
    • Gaps between expected and actual performance are measured, explained, and shrinking.
    • Risk, Data Science, and Growth teams operate using a shared economic language.
    • Leadership trusts NPV outputs enough to make difficult, high-impact decisions.
