Overview
A mission-driven organization focused on improving labor market outcomes for youth and adults facing systemic barriers is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their accounting team. This role involves managing a variety of accounting activities including payroll review and allocation, general ledger and bank reconciliations, revenue recognition, cost allocations, month-end close, and year-end audit preparation. The position offers an opportunity to broaden expertise across finance functions within a nonprofit environment.
Responsibilities
- Review bi-weekly payroll and serve as a backup for payroll processing
- Collect, validate, and consolidate payroll input data for processing
- Reconcile multiple bank and investment accounts
- Process payroll allocation entries and accruals; prepare balance sheet reconciliations and audit schedules
- Monitor compliance with internal financial and accounting controls over procurement, payroll, receipts, and disbursements
- Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules
- Prepare monthly journal entries, including prepaid entries, accruals, reclasses, and track new purchases and disposals
- Manage lease schedules and amortization of right of use assets
- Perform indirect cost recovery and other cost allocations
- Prepare federal drawdowns, reconcile federal revenue and expenses, and assist in preparation of Schedule of Expenditures for Federal Awards (SEFA)
- Manage state registrations and other organizational filings
- Respond to inquiries from finance leadership, colleagues, and program managers regarding financial results and reporting
- Assist with financial reporting to donors and statutory reports
- Support annual audit requests and follow-up
- Collaborate with grants stewardship and finance business partners on grants reports, analysis, and reclassification entries
- Partner with senior accounting leadership on process and policy updates
- Support maintenance and enhancements of the financial management system (NetSuite)
- Monitor compliance with organizational policies and federal regulations related to payroll, accounts payable, federal awards, and accounts receivable
Requirements
- 3-4 years of accounting experience in nonprofit organizations, preferably with federal and state grant programs
- Experience with accounting, payroll, and reconciliations in a fast-paced nonprofit environment
- Proficiency with NetSuite or similar accounting systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit/fund accounting, and cost accounting
- Ability to multitask, work under ambiguous conditions, and meet deadlines
- Experience supporting and analyzing best practices to ensure compliance
- Strong communication skills and customer service orientation, especially handling confidential matters
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $80,000 - $100,000 annually, based on experience and market factors
