Senior Accountant

Overview

A public benefit organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to play a key role in building a world-class accounting function. This position involves owning significant areas of the accounting operation, strengthening the accounting foundation, and preparing the organization for its first external audit. The role is fully remote and reports to the Controller.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for and support GAAP financial audits
• Resolve key accounting issues and identify opportunities to improve revenue reporting and reconciliations
• Support month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and other accounting activities
• Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly and quarterly flux analyses for balance sheet and income statement
• Assist with payroll accounting, including accruals, reconciliations, and period-end close activities; ensure accurate recording of compensation expenses and related liabilities in compliance with GAAP and company policies
• Support journal entries for intercompany transactions and reconciliations across entities; ensure accurate eliminations and timely settlements
• Identify opportunities to improve financial and accounting processes, including systems, tools, software, and workflows
• Build and develop accounts payable processes for month-end close activities, including accrual processes and aged payable reviews

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 4+ years of accounting experience, ideally with some experience in healthcare organizations and/or high-growth startups
• Experience working with GAAP accounting standards
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems
• Strong expertise in Accounts Payable, including invoice processing, vendor management, purchasing workflows, and process development
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage projects and tasks effectively
• Experience supporting the building of processes, procedures, and workflows that enable sustainable business scaling
• Ownership mindset with a focus on driving results for the mission, business, and customer experience
• Strong collaboration skills working with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, data science, and operations
• Desire to work in an early-stage startup environment that is fast-paced, complex, and with minimal barriers to decision-making
• Passion for helping individuals experiencing complex chronic needs such as homelessness, severe mental illness, and substance use disorder

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with healthcare organizations in MSO/PC structures
• CPA designation
• Familiarity with healthcare financial models, including per-member-per-month (PMPM), Medicare reimbursement, and shared savings arrangements
• Experience with modern accounting, payroll, and business intelligence tools such as QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Rippling, Runway, Looker, Power BI, or Tableau
• Proven track record supporting accounting ecosystem implementations (Financial ERP or payable software)
• Prior experience working with external auditors
