Overview
This is a full-time remote position with starting pay based on qualifications and experience. Strong candidates may start at or above the top of the salary range.
The organization is a fully remote fractional CFO firm founded in 2022, with a team of over 30 professionals serving more than 90 active clients with revenues ranging from $1 million to $30 million. The firm provides accounting, reporting, and CFO advisory services across industries including home services, construction, healthcare, and SaaS.
Responsibilities
- Manage the month-end close process from start to finish for a portfolio of ongoing clients, following a close checklist, researching variances, and delivering a complete close with no open items ready for fractional CFO review.
- Review all work performed by Staff Accountants, including categorizations, reconciliations, and journal entries, ensuring accuracy and reasonableness before submission to the fractional CFO.
- Delegate and direct Staff Accountant tasks, monitor progress, coach and develop team members, and report recurring skill gaps to the Ongoing Accounting Services Manager.
- Communicate regularly with clients via email and Zoom to address accounting questions and fulfill documentation requests.
- Consistently apply the client’s accounting framework, whether GAAP, modified GAAP, or modified cash basis.
- Assist with implementing updated firm quality standards and new processes.
- Maintain accurate records in in-house project tracking systems.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of month-end close processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Licensed CPA and public accounting audit experience are considered bonuses.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify out-of-pattern entries and proactively seek process improvements.
- Sound technical judgment across various reporting frameworks with practical application tailored to client situations.
- Proven ability to develop and mentor staff, providing clear explanations and constructive feedback.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of translating accounting concepts into plain language for clients and providing timely updates to leadership.
- Self-directed and reliable in a remote work environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $80,000 to $90,000 annually, depending on experience and skills.
