Overview

The organization is seeking a Market Manipulation Risk Strategist to join its Risk Strategy team. This role builds and refines detection and control strategies against market abuse across spot and derivatives markets, including spoofing, layering, wash trading, self-trading, momentum ignition, pump-and-dump, cross-market manipulation, and misappropriation schemes. The strategist will translate trading microstructure knowledge into surveillance logic, collaborate with data scientists to operationalize detection models, and partner with Compliance and Market Surveillance on regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain risk strategies that detect manipulative and abusive trading behaviors across spot, perpetual futures, options products, and other trading products.
  • Conduct in-depth investigations into suspected manipulation rings using:
    • Order flow analysis
    • Self-match/crossing patterns
    • Order book microstructure anomalies
    • Cross-account linkage
  • Build behavioral profiles for emerging manipulation typologies in:
    • Low-liquidity instruments
    • Leveraged products
    • Leveraged liquidation cascades
  • Quantify risk impact (market distortion, potential losses, exposure concentration) to support strategy prioritization and management reporting.
  • Partner with trading product, compliance, and related teams to design surveillance rules and control measures.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on derivatives trading experience, including a solid understanding of:
    • Futures, perpetual contracts, and options mechanics
    • Leverage, margining, liquidation mechanisms, insurance fund mechanisms, and ADL (Auto-Deleveraging) settings
  • Trading risk management experience with a focus on market manipulation detection and prevention of abusive schemes, including:
    • Spoofing/layering
    • Wash trading
    • Front-running
    • Insider/dealer misappropriation
  • Strong data analysis skills:
    • SQL required
    • Python preferred
    • Ability to independently design and validate detection logic against order-level and trade-level datasets
  • Ability to reason from the attacker’s perspective, including how manipulators construct positions, disguise intent, and exploit product rules.
  • Experience collaborating across risk, compliance, product, or legal functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience at a crypto exchange, brokerage, or trading venue in surveillance, trading risk, or market conduct roles.
  • Personal quantitative trading track record; candidates actively trading derivatives are encouraged to share verifiable account performance (PnL statements) as evidence of practical market understanding.
  • Familiarity with traditional finance market abuse frameworks and surveillance vendors.
  • Familiarity with crypto on-chain fund-flow tracing.
  • Experience with graph analysis/entity-linking and crypto on-chain fund-flow tracing to uncover collusion networks across accounts.
  • Understanding of the application of market anomaly signals, such as VPIN and HHI.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and company benefits.

Location

  • Remote-first, work-from-home arrangement (may vary depending on the nature of the role and team).
