Strategic Finance Associate

Overview

A growing e-commerce profit growth platform is seeking a Strategic Finance Associate to join their finance team. This is the second finance hire role, working closely with the Head of Strategic Finance to manage monthly close, board preparation, data infrastructure, and financial analysis. The role offers the opportunity to influence company strategy by providing actionable insights directly to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Manage monthly close processes in coordination with bookkeeping partners, including transaction categorization and financial review
• Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports to founders, department leaders, and banking partners
• Administer monthly commission calculations and coordinate payouts
• Own quarterly board deck financials and support fundraising activities as needed
• Maintain and develop Tableau dashboards to answer evolving business questions
• Translate business questions into clear, reliable data insights
• Serve as the central data resource across Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and other teams, ensuring data consistency and accuracy
• Collaborate on defining new metrics, dashboards, and performance indicators
• Develop expertise in financial and operational data structures using tools like Snowflake and dbt
• Evaluate, implement, and maintain AI tools to enhance team productivity
• Ensure data quality for AI systems and identify automation opportunities in finance and go-to-market operations
• Stay current on emerging finance and operations technologies and share knowledge with the team

Requirements

• Strong Excel skills with the ability to build financial models from scratch
• Analytical mindset with attention to data accuracy and integrity
• Curiosity about data systems and how numbers are generated
• Detail-oriented and reliable with a commitment to consistency
• Low ego with high ownership; comfortable with both detailed reconciliation and presenting to leadership
• 1–4 years of experience in finance roles such as investment banking, private equity, FP&A, corporate finance, Big 4, consulting, or startup finance
• Familiarity with SaaS metrics (MRR, retention, churn, NDR) is a plus
• Prior exposure to SQL, Tableau, or modern data tools is advantageous, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn technical skills
• Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and independently solving problems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with data warehouses and transformation tools like Snowflake and dbt is beneficial but not required
• Interest in AI and automation technologies applied to finance and operations

Location

This is a remote-first position with offices in New York City, Denver, Boston, and Chicago. Some travel may be required.
