Overview
This role supports payroll tax filing and payments within the Tax Filing & Payments Team. Work focuses on modernizing filing and payment processes by moving manual steps into software, maintaining integrations with tax agencies, and continuously improving reliability and scalability.
As a Tax Filing & Payments Associate, you will own filing and payments for a defined set of agencies and employers, partnering with senior teammates as you build toward greater independent scope.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of a defined set of jurisdictions with support from senior teammates, including:
- Account preparation ahead of filing
- Original filings
- Monitoring failed and late payments
- Building toward independently handling late originals and amendments as you grow in the role
- File and pay under established workflows to learn the system firsthand and understand how filing specs and systems change as regulations shift
- Balance tax accounts and reconcile discrepancies
- On escalations, dig into root causes alongside more senior teammates, partnering across Payroll Operations, R&D, and Revenue
- Log friction points as they arise and build the habit of turning observations into clear writeups others can act on
- Use AI to make work faster and more accurate, and incorporate it into normal operating routines
- Manage work within a defined scope by proactively communicating deadlines and blockers and progressing toward holding self to improving SLAs with less oversight over time
Requirements
- 1 to 2+ years of experience in operations, compliance, payroll, or a related regulated or customer-facing function (no specific degree or field of study required)
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems, tools, or subject matter, even without directly relevant prior experience
- Comfort taking ownership of a defined piece of work and asking for help early when you reach the edge of your knowledge
- Track record of noticing when something is off and speaking up even without formal authority to fix it
- Genuine curiosity about AI and internal tooling (you have experimented with AI to speed up your own work, or you are eager to)
- Solid written communication skills, with the ability to log friction clearly enough for others to act on
- Comfort operating in a product that is still being built, with some ambiguity while you ramp up
