Overview
Payroll is being rebuilt on modern infrastructure. This role sits within the Tax Filing & Payments Team, focused on filing and payments at scale by moving repetitive work out of manual processes and into software, while continuously improving the system based on real-world operational friction.
As a Tax Filing & Payments Specialist, you will own filing and payments for multiple agencies across thousands of employers end to end—account preparation ahead of filing, original filings, monitoring failed and late payments, and handling late originals and amendments when issues arise.
Responsibilities
- Own jurisdictions end to end, including:
- Account preparation ahead of filing
- Original filings
- Monitoring failed and late payments
- Filing late originals and amendments when things break
- File, pay, amend, and refile as needed to exercise and validate the system.
- Proactively update filing specifications and systems as regulations change.
- Balance tax accounts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Investigate and resolve complex escalations by partnering across Payroll Operations, R&D, and Revenue.
- Log friction points and translate them into clear requirements for the team to build against (including writing).
- Use AI to make your own work faster, and test where AI can replace a manual step.
- Manage your own work by:
- Communicating proactively about deadlines
- Maintaining an ambitious pace
- Meeting improving SLAs
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in operations or a regulated environment.
- Demonstrated ability to ramp into a new function or domain quickly (learning new systems/processes/subject areas from scratch and becoming productive fast).
- Comfort managing your own pipeline of work, including prioritizing across multiple jurisdictions and deadlines without daily assignment.
- Strong ability to notice when something is broken and take action—fixing when possible and writing up clearly when not.
- Genuine curiosity about AI and internal tooling; experience using AI to speed up work or strong interest in doing so.
- Strong written communication skills, especially turning friction into requirements that others (including non-tax specialists) can act on.
- Comfort operating in a product that is still being built and may not have polished tooling for every task.
