Overview
This role is for a mid-level Data Analyst focused on financial data, forecasting, reconciliation, and reporting in a DTC e-commerce environment. You will own the accuracy behind revenue numbers, partner closely with Finance, and translate raw transaction/payment data into trustworthy financial reporting and forecasts.
Responsibilities
Forecasting
- Build and maintain forecasts for revenue, orders, subscription renewals, and expenses by brand and channel, updating models as actuals arrive.
- Track forecast vs. actuals, explain variances, and flag meaningful misses to Finance.
- Update scenarios and assumptions used for budget planning.
Financial Reporting & Unit Economics
- Build and maintain reporting covering revenue, gross vs. net sales, discounts, refunds, COGS, and contribution margin by brand, channel, and product.
- Report on unit economics including contribution margin, payback, and profitability by brand, channel, and product.
- Support month-end close with timely, tied-out data.
- Produce variance reporting that explains what changed and why.
Financial Data Integrity & Reconciliation
- Lead investigations into revenue discrepancies by reconciling payment processor data (Stripe, Shopify Payments, Amazon) with bank deposits, internal database records, and accounting (QuickBooks).
- Reconcile marketing spend across ad platforms and invoices against finance records.
- Partner with Finance and Data Engineering to fix discrepancies at the source.
- Document business logic behind financial metrics so teams use consistent definitions.
Data Transformation & Visualization
- Handle the “last mile” of data preparation using KNIME or dbt (or similar tools such as Alteryx or Python/Pandas).
- Write efficient SQL to transform raw transaction data in Snowflake into datasets that reflect financial business rules.
- Design, build, and maintain dashboards in Sigma for Finance and leadership.
Requirements
- 2–3 years of specific data analysis experience, ideally supporting finance (not a junior analyst or senior data architect role).
- Hands-on forecasting experience building and maintaining financial forecasts (e.g., revenue, orders, or expenses) using SQL, spreadsheets, or a BI tool.
- Strong financial acumen, including comfort with revenue recognition, COGS, gross vs. net sales, and contribution margin.
- Proven DTC e-commerce experience required, including comfort working with Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, and Stripe data.
- Strong proficiency with Snowflake (SQL) and Sigma. Experience with Tableau, Looker, or Power BI is acceptable if you can adapt quickly.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Competency in KNIME or dbt preferred (Alteryx or Python experience is acceptable if you can adapt quickly).
- Familiarity with ELT tools (e.g., Hevo, Fivetran, Airbyte, Azure, etc.) to communicate effectively with the Data Engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of how Shopify order data maps to processor payouts and bank deposits, including where fees, refunds, and chargebacks create gaps.
- Understanding of QuickBooks report structures.
