Overview

This role is part of an organization expanding into several new markets at the same time. Capital allocation is a key decision driver across new product lines, marketing channels, and headcount, requiring strong analytical support to ensure dollars are committed thoughtfully.

The Strategic Finance Manager will report to the VP of Finance and build the analysis that informs these decisions. This position owns the operating model and planning cycle, partners with functional leaders across the organization, and works closely with the CFO and founders.

Responsibilities

Own the operating model and forecast cycle

  • Own the driver-based operating model for the base business and expand it as new insurance products and business lines launch.
  • Run the annual budget and long-range planning process end to end, including cadence, assumptions, stakeholder inputs, and the consolidated plan approved by the executive team.
  • Own the monthly and quarterly forecast cycle and variance analysis:
    • After Accounting closes the books, explain what moved versus plan and prior period, why it moved, and what it means for the forecast.

Produce executive-ready financial narrative and reporting

  • Translate financial results into clear business insights for the CFO, founders, board, and investors.
  • Lead monthly business reviews with functional leaders and convert what the numbers show into business decisions.

Build the financial case for new opportunities

  • Build the financial model for new product, vertical, channel, or partnership opportunities:
    • Size the market, model the economics, evaluate capital commitment, and assess return profile.
  • Validate underwriting assumptions against results:
    • After launches, compare actual economics to what was underwritten and apply learnings to subsequent decisions.
  • Monitor product and channel unit economics, including CAC and payback, policy retention and lifetime value, contribution margin, and related metrics.

Support corporate development and strategic decision frameworks

  • Support corporate development through diligence, modeling, and transaction analysis as needed.
  • Help refine frameworks used to compare build, buy, or partner options and their return profiles.

Corporate planning systems and spend underwriting

  • Support evaluation and implementation of a planning system:
    • Assess options, make recommendations, and own the rollout.
  • Underwrite vendor spend:
    • Build the business case before commitments, support negotiation on terms, and provide budget owners visibility to manage their own numbers.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant experience, ideally combining:
    • 2+ years at a reputable investment bank, corporate development group, or private equity firm
    • 2+ years in strategic finance or FP&A at a high-growth company
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a similarly quantitative field
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including:
    • Driver-based operating models
    • Three-statement mechanics
    • Scenario and sensitivity analysis
    • Working command of accounting concepts and GAAP
  • Experience with unit economics in a consumer or marketplace business, including:
    • CAC, LTV, payback, cohort retention, and contribution margin
  • Proven ability to translate complex analysis into a clear narrative for executive or investor audiences
  • Startup or high-growth experience strongly preferred, including building financial processes from scratch
  • Hands-on fluency with AI tools for analysis, research, and workflow automation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Insurance, insurtech, fintech, or marketplace experience
  • CFA certification
  • Vendor negotiation or procurement exposure
  • Finance tech stack experience (NetSuite, Ramp, planning tools)
