Overview

This role involves building and owning the organization’s next-generation FP&A planning, forecasting, and reporting infrastructure. The team is replacing an Anaplan-style planning stack with a faster, more automated approach built around AI agents, APIs, and connected systems rather than manual spreadsheet workflows.

You will work closely with an FP&A Engineer to design the tooling from scratch, then own forecasting, modeling, and strategic decision support built on top of it. This position is not a traditional FP&A role with added automation—success requires genuine interest in how finance functions work end-to-end, rebuilding components where automation improves outcomes, and using what you build to answer the business’s hardest questions.

Responsibilities

Phase 1: Build

  • Partner directly with the FP&A Engineer to design and ship next-generation planning, forecasting, and reporting infrastructure.
  • Build and extend agents on the organization’s stack, including internal agent frameworks, a control plane, and agent-to-agent tooling to eliminate manual FP&A workflows.
  • Help shape the architecture, including what gets automated, what requires human judgment, and where models need guardrails.

Phase 2: Own

  • Build driver-based models across revenue, gross profit, headcount, operating expenses, and cash.
  • Lead scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, and ROI work for investments, pricing, hiring, and commercial decisions.
  • Own and continuously improve forecasting, budgeting, and long-range planning.
  • Turn messy, incomplete, or contradictory data into a clear point of view on what drives the numbers.
  • Translate complex analysis into executive-ready answers to:
    • What changed?
    • Why?
    • What does it mean?
    • What should we do next?

Every Day (Regardless of Phase)

  • Respond to urgent modeling questions with little warning, turning them into structured analysis leaders can act on quickly (e.g., hiring decisions, unexplained revenue swings, or fast financial assessments for commercial deals).
  • Partner with Accounting, BI, and other business leaders so models reflect how the business actually operates—not just how a spreadsheet suggests it should.

Requirements

  • Real, hands-on experience building or working with AI agents (this is required).
  • Comfort with leading model providers and agent frameworks, or a demonstrated track record of quickly picking up new tools in this space.
  • A builder’s mindset: you’re comfortable learning how systems and data fit together and using technology to solve finance problems beyond Excel.
  • Working knowledge of automation, APIs, SQL, Python, or similar. You don’t need to be an engineer, but you must be conversant enough to partner with one as an equal.
  • FP&A, strategic finance, corporate finance, or similar experience with strong financial modeling skills.
  • Comfort building analysis from a loosely defined, half-formed business question.
  • Strong judgment about where precision adds real value versus where speed matters more.
  • Strong, confident communication; able to walk senior leadership through complex models without losing them.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and how operational decisions flow through to financial results.
