Overview
This role involves forensic accounting to resolve financial insurance losses, including (but not limited to) business interruption, product recall, product guarantee, cyber, fidelity and stock. You will investigate claims through detailed analysis and review of accounting records, third-party information, and general enquiries.
Using methodical analysis of financial data and public information, you will evaluate and identify the real economic impact of an insured incident. The goal is to help the instructing party minimize risks, protect assets, and make informed decisions.
After completing the review, the role extends to assessing quantum and negotiating the quantum with brokers, lawyers, accountants, and corporate management.
You will work within the organization’s adjusting team providing forensic accounting services to both internal adjusters and external clients.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and assess insured financial losses from inception to settlement
- Provide support and advice to policyholders regarding their losses
- Examine claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine coverage in the event of a financial loss
- Service current clients
- Build relationships and undertake marketing activities to grow the client base
- Investigate insurance claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, inspecting physical damage, and comparing claim information with evidence presented
- Set loss reserves
- Perform detailed analysis and review of financial and non-financial information
- Prepare reports by collecting and summarizing information
- Identify potential litigation when appropriate
- Present evidence and serve as an expert witness at legal proceedings
Additional Work Requirements
- Work closely with claimants and adjusters; at times work independently and at times as part of a larger accounting team
- Collaborate with other consultants retained by the adjuster (e.g., construction consultants and engineers) to ensure loss measurement aligns to the reinstatement timeline
- Look beyond financial documents by researching market trends, industry information, and conducting interviews with business owners, employees, vendors, and customers
